The Event
“Let the only flame that burns be the flame of knowledge”
Six people were killed when a fire gutted a shack they were sleeping in Khayelitsha in the early hours of Sunday (Reported 5th September 2010)
As a result of these and other devastating fires, SAFMA has conducted primary and secondary research into training youth in Fire Safety and Fire Awareness.
The fire training and fire awareness project is a community based educational project, directed at learners grades 9-12 in high schools that are primarily under-funded and under resourced.
The project was launched in February 2007 and has trained over 1600 high school learners from as far as Paarl and the Overberg. These learners received a fire life safety certificate recognized by the education department as part of their Life Orientation Curriculum.
We would like to be prepared for the Class of 2011 and by supporting this event you will be giving more of our youth the opportunity to learn this valuable lesson in Fire Life Safety.
